WHAT'S IN A NAME?

PLENTY WHEN IT COMES TO BARIAY 1492 AND ITS ORIGINS.

On October 28, 1492, Christopher Columbus and his explorers arrived at Bariay Key in Cuba. He sent two of his men deep into Cuban territory, where they encountered the Taíno, the indigenous people, smoking what appeared to be mere dried leaves. The smoke produced was not only fragrant but also formed a mesmerizing blue haze. The Taíno were an advanced civilization, relying on agriculture, hunting, and fishing for their sustenance. Tobacco played a large role in their culture, used for religious, medicinal and ceremonial purposes. This marked the beginning of the Cuban cigar and the birth of the cigar industry.

Many today believe that the legendary blue smoke is merely folklore. We, however, believe it was lost over time. With modern changes in cigar aging and processing methods, that once-distinct blue smoke has faded away. But we are convinced that, when crafted using the time-honored techniques of old, it still exists. Through our commitment to all-natural, traditional processes and production methods, we’ve rediscovered what was once thought to be lost.… THE BLUE SMOKE IS BACK.
